Incredible meeting - Beauchamp Chapter 1422

Beauchamp Chapter 1422 Oakley House, Bromley – Wednesday 4th March

Beauchamp Chapter 1422 held a most enjoyable and well-attended convocation on Wednesday 4th March at Oakley House, Bromley, when the new Principals were installed into their respective Chairs.

The Chapter was pleased to install:

• Zerubbabel – E Comp Steve Hyland
• Haggai – E Comp Nigel White
• Joshua – E Comp Brian Clarke

The ceremony was conducted in an excellent manner and enjoyed by all present, continuing the strong tradition of ritual within the Chapter.

Beauchamp Chapter 1422 is proud to be known as the West Kent Military Chapter, reflecting the distinguished heritage of Beauchamp Lodge No.1422 whose origins lie in India. The Lodge was founded in Roorkee in 1872, and the associated Royal Arch Chapter that later became known as Solani Chapter No.1422 first met there in 1912, taking its name from the nearby Solani River.

Following Indian independence, the Chapter later moved to Saharanpur, where many of its members were then stationed, before eventually working under the protection of Comrades Lodge No.3057. In 1962 the Chapter moved to Fort William, Calcutta, where Beauchamp Lodge was then meeting. The original Chapter was eventually erased in the early 1970s.

In order to re-establish a Royal Arch Chapter connected with Beauchamp Lodge and to preserve this historic lineage, arrangements were made for members of the Lodge to attach themselves to Ravensbrook Chapter No.8936. This took effect in January 2024, with the intention that the Chapter would in due course be repurposed as the West Kent Military Chapter.

Following the necessary constitutional process, Ravensbrook Chapter was formally renamed Beauchamp Chapter 1422 on 6th March 2025, thereby restoring the historic association between Beauchamp Lodge and its Royal Arch Chapter.

The Beauchamp Chapter 1422 itself continues to go from strength to strength. It currently enjoys a membership of forty subscribing Companions, with two further Companions joining at the March meeting.

Looking ahead, the Beauchamp Chapter 1422 already has four exaltations planned for the June convocation, demonstrating the continued interest in the Royal Arch amongst members of Beauchamp Lodge and the wider Masonic community.

In addition, enquiries have recently been received from another Chapter that may unfortunately be surrendering its warrant. Should this occur, several experienced Companions may seek to join Beauchamp Chapter. Their presence would bring further experience and support to the Chapter, particularly for the newer members who will in due course progress through the Principals’ Chairs.

In keeping with the Chapter’s historic origins in India, this year will also see the introduction of the India Ritual, further strengthening the connection with the Chapter’s historic roots overseas.

The future therefore looks extremely positive for Beauchamp Chapter 1422, which continues to combine strong companionship, growing membership, and a proud military heritage rooted in its historic origins in India.

The close relationship between Beauchamp Lodge No.1422 and Beauchamp Chapter 1422 reflects the enduring traditions of the West Kent Military brethren. Together they preserve a unique heritage rooted in service, fellowship and continuity, ensuring that the proud history of Beauchamp, both in the Craft and the Royal Arch, continues to flourish for future generations.
