Keep Calm and Carry On

Keep Calm and Carry On - In 1940 the Kaisar-I-Hind (Empress of India) Lodge No.1274 were holding their meetings at Pagani’s restaurant in London. The lodge stored its fine set of table silver at the restaurant; but sadly on the 4th October the restaurant was destroyed in an air raid.

However, at great risk to themselves, and contrary to war time regulations, two of the lodge members went searching through the piles of rubble, and did succeed in finding the lodge’s loving cup, cigar box, and even a few firing glasses. The badly damaged table silver was restored after the war, but some dents and scars were deliberately left untouched to ‘remind us of the determination of those who helped to secure our freedom and deliverance’.
