Any notable experiences in service?

Being on duty in early February at the Tower of London 1979 when Donny and Marie Osmond were making a TV special, I had to stand on No 4 post outside the guard room in ‘great coat’ and bearskin why they sang a song and talked to a Yeoman Warder.

I joined the battalion on 10th January 1979 in Chelsea Barracks for public duties, then posted to Munster Germany April 1979, then to London Derry, Fort George. Then back to Germany and many of those exercises that we all loved. Then back to public duties, two short tours UN tour in Cyprus, then Belize and my last two years was in N. Ireland, BallyKelly and Achnocloy. Then discharged from the colours.

How did you join Freemasonry?

Through scouting, all my friends were masons. I attended a few ladies’ nights and got what I had been missing since I left the army, camaraderie

What do you get from Freemasonry?

Likeminded people who laughed at funny things and enjoyed life. I did not find that in my other civilian activities or profession. Freemasonry gave me a sense of belonging and that bit of discipline that was needed in my life. There is structure and order in Freemasonry.
