From: 1992 To: 2010
I originally joined the Red Cross as a cadet, then progressed to a volunteer and then full-time staff as an Emergency Planning Officer responsible for South London.
I had the privilege and opportunity to work both in the UK and overseas with members of the emergency and civil services on a number of emergency planning and response projects, particularly with services from Madrid, New York and London following the bombings in those cities.
One of the command team for a number of state level events including, Buckingham Palace Garden Parties (Tactical Advisor), The Queens Golden Jubilee (Bronze Officer – The Mall), The Falklands 25 Remembrance (Bronze Officer - HorseGuards) and Biggin Hill Air show (Tactical Advisor).
I also responded to a number of major incidents including the London Bombings, the Lakanal House fire, The New Year’s Day Tsunami, flood response and the flu pandemic.
I was awarded the VMS (Voluntary Medical Services Medal) and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal.
After leaving the Red Cross I continued to support developing volunteers for UK Lowland Search and Rescue.
Emergency Planning Officer (EMO Kieran Smith)
Through a friend and business partner, who had been an active Freemason for a long time.
The opportunity to meet a fantastic group of people, from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences who I’d never have had the opportunity to meet otherwise.
