Here’s a photo of the Beauchamp Lodge by-laws booklet, revised in 1936.

Interesting to see that the Grand Secretary at the time the Lodge came into existence (1872) was John Hervey. West Kent has a Lodge named after him Hervey Lodge No. 1692, which meets in Sidcup. The Hervey Lodge is West Kent’s University scheme Lodge.

John Morant Hervey (1805–1880), the owner of an iron foundry in east London, was the Grand Secretary, or Chief Executive, of the United Grand Lodge of England, the governing body of Freemasonry in England and Wales, from 1868 until his death. In this portrait he is wearing the regalia of the Grand Secretary, whose emblem is a pair of crossed quills.

He is also wearing a number of Masonic jewels, some of which were awarded to him for his charity work or for attending specific Masonic events. Others were given to him by the lodges of which he was a member. These include two jewels for the Royal York Lodge of Perseverance No. 7, which are now held in the Library and Museum of Freemasonry. The portrait was bequeathed by John Hervey to the United Grand Lodge of England in 1880, and is one of a series of portraits of past grand secretaries.
