HMS Intrepid’s Captain, Capt. Dingemans made this broadcast 42 years ago today.

HMS INTREPID May 20th 1982

Ship’s Captain,
"Do you hear there? This is the Captain speaking, I have received a signal from Northwood, confirming Her Majesties Government wish to engage the enemy ashore. At 0130 hours, the ship will Close Up for Action Stations, our Task Group, will detach from the Carrier Group, and proceed through Falkland Sound, and enter into San Carlos Water, at 0330 hours.

Alacrity is already on patrol in the Sound checking for Mines. We will offload the Embarked Forces, and their equipment. We have also received a Signal from Admiral Woodward, our Task Force Commander. I will read it to you now ....... ‘The eyes and the ears of the World are upon us. Be strong in resolve, be brave in Battle, be mercifully in Victory’.

We will go in tomorrow morning, I'll take this opportunity to wish you the very best of luck in the coming days, and I am sure the ‘Old Showboat’ will do us proud, that is all".
