About Care for Veterans

Care for Veterans (formerly The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home) was established in 1919 to care for those soldiers returning from World War I with life-changing disabilities. For over 100 years, we have provided long term nursing care, rehabilitation, respite and award-winning end-of-life care to disabled ex-armed forces personnel from the RAF, Army, Royal Navy and auxiliary services.

We adopt a multi-disciplinary approach towards the care and rehabilitation of our residents, which includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and neuropsychology, as well as social and recreational activities and a chaplaincy service – all delivered from our facilities in Worthing, West Sussex.

Currently, our residents range in age from 34-100 years old, and the majority of those we care for have an Acquired Brain Injury or a degenerative neurological condition, such as multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease and Parkinson’s. We can provide specialist care for people with Acquired Brain Injury, and award-winning end-of-life care.

We accept residents aged 18 and over and have 60 beds. Anyone who has served in HM Forces at any time or in any capacity, and also immediate family members of someone who has served in HM Forces, is eligible for admission at Care for Veterans.

We receive no regular Government funding and each year need to raise over £1.5 million to enable us to continue our first-class and award-winning care. We do this via individuals, companies and trusts, and any help that we receive is very much appreciated and very well spent on the veterans in our care.

What we do

Working in the gaps between healthcare and social services, Care for Veterans offers a range of appropriate solutions for people with physical disabilities and complex needs, many of whom have served this country.

As we are not a statutory provider, we are able to lead the field, associated with physical and other forms of care for disabled people, free from many of the constraints that beset the public sector today.

There are many ways you can show your support for our disabled veterans. Your support could enable a veteran to become more mobile by funding our physiotherapy programme, or put a smile on our residents’ faces by funding a party in our Wellbeing Hub.
